2 Biblical Grains Can Dramatically Improve Your Health
"It is the angel of Life that flows through the blades of grass into the body of the Son of Light, shaking him with her power. For the grass is Life and the Son of Light is Life, and Life flows between the Son of Light and the blades of grass, making a bridge to the Holy Stream of Light which gave birth to all creation." (The Essene Gospel Of Peace Book IV)
Since the beginning of time sages and physicians have known of the miraculous healing properties found in certain cereal grasses and grains. They had an intrinsic wisdom about their ability to nourish the body due to the fact that they contain almost every vitamin, mineral, enzyme and phytonutrient required for sustaining life. The two most legendary grains with tremendous biblical support to back up their healing ability are wheat and barley. Millions of people throughout history have experienced the blessings of great health by consuming these grains on a regular basis.
Today, more and more people realize that they must do something to either maintain good health or restore lost health. Many of the latest health reports say that we must eat more fruits, vegetables, nuts, whole grains, and good fats. However, our lifestyles have become so hectic that it’s very difficult to take the time out of our schedules to eat right. We’re all on the run with our daily routine with little to no time left over to prepare good meals. Many live away from big cities where it’s not convenient to eat at good restaurants or get to a health food store and buy organic products. In light of this, we resort to eating foods that we know we shouldn’t and our bodies are literally starving for better nutrition.
If you’re looking to change the nutritional deficiencies you’re suffering from, perhaps it’s time you considered adding wheat grass and barley grass to your daily diet, as well as more whole grain wheat and barley products. The ancients knew that every aspect of these two grains offer tremendous health benefits. Some of the most powerful, however, come in their early stage of growth where they are in the form of blades of grass. Wheat grass and barley grass can fuel the body with the some of the highest amounts of chlorophyll found anywhere in nature.
The beauty about wheat grass and barley grass is that it takes very little time out of your day to incorporate them into your diet. All you need to do is mix a few teaspoons into a drink and you’ll provide your body with tremendous nutrition. The truth is these two grasses alone could serve as our sole nutritional support from birth to death if that were all we had to live on. Let’s take a closer look at these two important grains and their importance in maintaining optimum health.
Wheat Of all the foods mentioned in the Bible, assuredly none holds a higher position of importance than wheat. Both the Bible and archaeology show that wheat was one of the main staple foods of ancient times and some form of it was probably eaten at every meal. In fact, historians claim that wheat was the earliest crop ever harvested by the human race with evidence of wheat farming along the Nile River dating back as far as 4,000 B.C.
Time and again in the Bible, a bountiful wheat harvest is portrayed as a blessing from God to His people. Let’s look at a few examples.
"Praise the LORD, O Jerusalem; praise thy God, O Zion. For he hath strengthened the bars of thy gates, he hath blessed thy children within thee. He maketh peace in thy borders, and filleth thee with the finest of the wheat." (Psalm 147:12-14)
"Be glad then, ye children of Zion, and rejoice in the LORD your God: for he hath given you the former rain moderately, and he will cause to come down for you the rain, the former rain, and the latter rain in the first month. And the floors shall be full of wheat, and the vats shall overflow with wine and oil." (Joel 2:23-24)
"Ask ye of the LORD rain in the time of the latter rain, so the LORD shall make bright clouds, and give them showers of rain, to every one grass in the field." (Zechariah 10:1)
The biblical feast day of Pentecost, also known as the Festival of Weeks, or Shavuot, was held in celebration of the spring wheat harvest. This same wheat festival was the day in the New Testament when the Holy Spirit descended upon the Apostles. King David, the anointed of the LORD, who said he was going to build a House for God, bought the plot of land which today is known as Mt. Moriah which was being used to thresh wheat.
Nutritionally, wheat does seem to contain it all. It is an excellent source of protein, fat, and carbohydrates as well as vitamins, minerals and enzymes. Wheat truly is a special gift from God and every aspect of this sacred grain should be considered for good health.
"15 LBS. of wheat grass is equal in overall nutritional value to 350 LBS. of ordinary vegetables. We have not even scratched the surface of what grass can mean to man in the future." (1) -Charles F. Schnabel
"The grain of grass contains all the elements of which the body is composed including revitalizing and rebuilding materials, force producers for energy and also the eliminators of waste acids. Grass and sprouts are perfect foods." (1) -Dr. Ann Wigmore
Wheat is also intimately linked to our Savior in the scriptures as Yahshua (Jesus) linked his body to that of the wheat. "I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst…·Your fathers did eat manna in the wilderness, and are dead. This is the bread which cometh down from heaven, that a man may eat thereof, and not die. I am the living bread which came down from heaven: if any man eat of the bread, he shall live forever: and the bread that I will give is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world." (John 6:35,49,50,51)
Wheat was also used as a symbol for the dying and resurrecting Savior. Wheat is the symbol of eternal life. It doesn’t really die. It goes into the ground and is transformed and reborn again. One wheat berry can be planted in the right soil and from that berry will sprout up a whole stalk of wheat that will contain some 30, 60 or 100 fold new berries. You can see that under this scenario it wouldn’t take too many plantings to be able to harvest a whole field of wheat again. So it is with the Kingdom of God.
"Verily, verily, I say unto you, except a grain of wheat fall into the ground and die, it abideth alone: but if it die, it bringeth forth much fruit." (John 12:24)
God’s eternal majesty will astound His children if they just stop and contemplate his awesome power. Did you know that it takes 3 1/2 days for a grain of wheat planted in the soil at just the right time to spring forth into a blade of green grass? The first sign of green grass that breaks the soil is a sign of new life. Our Savior tells us that like a grain of wheat, he must go into the ground for 3 1/2 days and he will rise again. Isn’t that amazing that this is the exact timetable for wheat to break into grass? Just imagine what wheat grass can do for your health if our Savior tied it into new life. The power of this grass in our diet has the power to give us new life as it regenerates every cell in our body.
Barley Barley, like wheat, is a highly nutritious grain and is mentioned close to 40 times in the Bible. In ancient Israel, its growing season and harvest actually came before wheat and it was the first crop of the year. Symbolically, barley is representative of the prophet or the one who came first to announce the Messiah. Hence, some Bible scholars compare barley to John the Baptist and wheat to Yahshua (Jesus).
To the Hebrews, the first green barley shoots springing forth out of the ground were a sign for them to begin their new calendar year. They called this month Abib, which means tender or green. Symbolically then, barley also represents a new beginning or a fresh start.
While barley was never considered to be quite as versatile or prized as wheat, it played an important role in the diet of the Israelites. It was plentiful and inexpensive, making it highly accessible to the masses. Besides its usage as a human food, it was also used to feed animals.
According to the books Healing Foods From The Bible and Foods and Nutrition Encyclopedia, barley is reputed to improve potency, vigor, and strength. Ancient Greek athletes would often eat an easily digested barley-mash while in training. Roman gladiators were sometimes called hordearii, meaning "barley eaters’" because the grain was added to their diet to give them bursts of strength before their contests. Barley was also common rendering on ancient Greek coins.
Like wheat, barley is also an excellent source of protein, fat, carbohydrates, vitamins, and minerals. According to ancient Oriental wisdom, barley is good for the spleen and stomach, helps promote normal urinary flow, and like wheat, helps in the cooling process of the body.
It’s important to note that both wheat and barley are listed in the book of Deuteronomy as two of the seven foods that would be in the Promised Land as a blessing to the Israelites.
"For the LORD thy God bringeth thee into a good land, a land of brooks of water, of fountains and depths that spring out of the valleys and hills; a land of wheat, and barley, and vines (grapes), and fig trees, and pomegranates; a land of olive oil, and honey." (Deuteronomy 8:8)
What’s also interesting is that the LORD assured the Israelites perfect health if they went into the Promised Land and followed His laws, which most assuredly included their diet. The diet of the Israelites was intricately built around the seven foods of Deuteronomy.
"If thou wilt diligently hearken to the voice of the LORD thy God, and will do that which is right in his sight, and wilt give ear to his commandments, and keep all his statutes, I will put none of the diseases upon thee, which I have brought upon the Egyptians: For I am The LORD that healeth thee." (Exodus 15:26)
"And ye shall serve the LORD your God, and he shall bless thy bread (wheat & barley), and thy water; and I will take sickness away from the midst of thee." (Exodus 23:25)
In the New Testament Yahshua (Jesus) linked barley and grass, which was most likely either barley or wheat grass to his ministry. His ministry served both the physical and spiritual needs of the people when he fed five thousand. In this miracle he linked the importance of food to our relationship with God while at the same time he opened their eyes to the deeper spiritual truths of our Father.
"And Yahshua (Jesus) said, Make the men sit down. Now there was much grass in the place. So the men sat down, in number about five thousand. And Yahshua (Jesus) took the loaves (of barley); and when he had given thanks, he distributed to the disciples, and the disciples to them that were set down·" (John 6:10-11)
Human Blood And Chlorophyll Are Almost Identical The reason why chlorophyll is so beneficial to our health is due to the fact that it is almost identical to human blood. There is only one difference between hemoglobin and chlorophyll. Hemoglobin is built around iron, and chlorophyll is built around magnesium. It’s my belief that in God’s perfect world, our blood and the blood of plants (chlorophyll) would be identical. It’s the perfect symbiotic relationship between man and the plants. All life is dependent upon each other. Plants give us oxygen, we give them carbon dioxide and our sole source of nutrition comes from the chlorophyll found in all plant life.
"Chlorophyll, which is the green pigment found in the plant cells, is essential to the process of photosynthesis. Simply put, chlorophyll is the substance that fuels life on earth; without it, there would be no plants and thus, no oxygen. Chlorophyll’s structure has been found to be almost identical to the structure of hemoglobin, a vital component within human blood. The most obvious difference between the two is that the structure of chlorophyll is based around magnesium, while hemoglobin is arranged around iron. Some scientists have hypothesized that the blood in animals is made in almost the same way as chlorophyll is made in plants. This could mean that when chlorophyll is introduced into the system, it could allow the blood to, among many other things, deliver more oxygen to the body and ‘build’ blood in those systems that are weakened by disease and toxins."(2)
